WORK-IN-PROGRESS WEDNESDAY! Thanks for taking a moment to read.

Hope you enjoy this week's snippet.
The fine gravel crunched lightly beneath Alexandra’s slippers as she stalked away from the revolting indignities she had just endured.  Tears of fury and pain burned at the corners of her eyes as unbridled hatred toward Cecil Beford regressed into chokes of bitter sorrow.  Nostalgia and grief flowed through her as she mourned anew the loss of her home and the world from which fate had torn her.
My second Regency is mainly in the hero’s point-of-view.  Lord Rupert is the rakish son of the Marquess of Lansdowne.  His covert escapades to ferret out a ring of aristocratic criminals requires that he disappear into the British countryside for a short time under a false identity.  Here he meets Alexandra Dancy, a country miss whose family hides its aristocratic origins because they must guard a dark secret.  How can the two overcome the prejudices and hidden identities that divide them?  Sorry, you will just have to wait and read it to learn the answer.

WELCOME TO MY WORK-IN-PROGRESS WEDNESDAY!

Hope you enjoy this week's snippet.  I am feeling much better since my surgery and am "back in the saddle again."  Happy Thanksgiving!
Rupert closed the heavy door as if its every creak might bring down bedlam upon him. Mercifully, a dense bank of clouds now engulfed the moon and granted him the cover of heavy darkness as he moved quickly along the ancient manor's stone foundation.  Once he had reached the far end of the house, long, dark shadows that reached to a thicket of trees helped veil his last steps toward the main road.

A long silence preceded Alexandra's response.  She ceased to draw and dropped her eyes, as if trying to formulate an answer.  Slowly, she raised her intense gaze to his expectant one.  “I am not given to superficial prattle, Captain, therefore I will be honest with you.  While you and I are not inclined to divulge to one another the lives we left behind, you cannot make me believe that you were other than a heartless rake who preyed without conscience upon unsuspecting young women.  You are too handsome by half and your easy compliments tell me that you are used to having your way with the gullible of my fair sex.  You shall not find this with me.  I welcome your friendship, but I will not be pandered to like some prize to be maneuvered and exploited.  If you will be my friend, please speak to me as such without regard for my gender.”

WORK-IN-PROGRESS WEDNESDAY!

Thanks for taking a minute to read an excerpt from my work-in-progress.  See book blurb below.

Rupert acquiesced to her demands for the moment but inwardly vowed to the minions of hell who championed her demise that he would stop her from marrying Bedford and falling prey to his diabolical designs.   And he promised that he would do so without her knowing whom she had to thank.  Hers was not the only heart turning to stone.  He doubted it possible to ever find another Alexandra, and yet in spite of his tendency to rebellion against the strictures of his station, in the final analysis of his commitment to duty, he knew he could not defy his parents and marry a girl so far beneath him.  The fire to save her from herself and from Cecil Bedford burned in his veins.  A heart of stone emblazened in the kilns of passion and immovable determination was a fearsome thing for any opponent to extinguish, and until he had saved her and her family from the tragedy that awaited them, no one and nothing would do so.
